The calculation is based on Thumb Rules, it is essential for any civil engineer, Site engineer, or civil supervisor. They play and help a crucial role while taking quick decisions on site. To get the exact quantity it is always advised to go through design calculation.

Thumb rules help you in finding out the approximate quantity of steel in the RCC structure and make solutions easy using a simple mathematical formula and make smart decisions whenever needed.
1. Slab/Lintel

For slab/lintel steel required 0.7% – 1 %

Minimum percentage of steel =0.7%

∴ Quantity of steel = (0.7/100) x 1 = 0.007 m³

Weight of steel = 0.007 x 7850 = 54.95 ≊ 55 kg

Maximum percentage of steel = 1.0%

∴ Quantity of steel = (1.0/100) x 1 = 0.01 m³

Weight of steel = 0.01 x 7850 = 78.5 kg

2. Beam

For Beam steel required 1% – 2%

Minimum percentage of steel =1.0%

∴Quantity of steel = (1.0/100) x 1 = 0.01 m³

Weight of steel = 0.01 x 7850 = 78.5 kg

Maximum percentage of steel = 2.0%

∴ Quantity of steel = (2.0/100) x 1 = 0.02 m³

Weight of steel = 0.02 x 7850 = 157 kg

3. Column

For column steel required 0.8% – 6 %

Minimum percentage of steel =0.8%

∴Quantity of steel = (0.8/100) x 1 = 0.008 m³

Weight of steel = 0.008 x 7850 = 62.80 kg

Maximum percentage of steel = 6.0%
∴ Quantity of steel = (6.0/100) x 1 = 0.06 m³
Weight of steel = 0.06 x 7850 = 471 kg

4. Foundation

For Foundation 0.5 to 0.8 % of steel is required.

Minimum percentage of steel =0.5%

∴ Quantity of steel = (0.5/100) x 1 = 0.005 m³

Weight of steel = 0.005 x 7850 = 39.25 kg

Maximum percentage of steel =0.8%

∴ Quantity of steel = (0.8/100) x 1 = 0.008 m³

Weight of steel = 0.008 x 7850 = 62.80 kg
