Ribbed and solid Slab firstly, the use of the framework relies on it. Plates are structural parts of buildings that shape floors and roofs. These may be evenly thick and ribbed with ribs in one or two waffles directions.

1- Ribbed Slabs

Ribbed slabs are slabs that are cast integrally with a series of closely spaced joists that are backed up by a collection of beams.

Ribbed Slab’s main advantage of the ribbed floors is the decrease of weight gained by removing part of the concrete below the neutral axis. It makes it type of floor profitable for buildings with a long span of light to medium loads, including apartment buildings and hospitals.

2- Solid slabs

One Way Slab

Solid Slab on all four sides a slab is supported and the ratio of long span to short span is equal to or greater than two, it will be known as a one-way slab. The Solid Slab load on the slab is carried in one direction by the short span. But, in the transverse direction, the central reinforcement bar, and the delivery bar.

Longer span (l)/Shorter span (b) ≥ 2

Example of the solid slab: Verandah slab, cantilever slab, etc.

Two Way Slab

The two-way slab is protected on all four sides and the long span ratio to the short span is less than 2, it will be called a two-way slab. The short span or long span carries the load on the slab. The shorter span usually carries more load.

Longer length (L)/b < 2

Example of Two Way Slab: Slab used in a multistorey building.
